slackers, finals and peppermints?!

Turbo and I have been super slackers on the blog as of late... we've been very busy with school this semester!
Our apologies!
But anyways we are looking forward to another semester of Culture Shock!
Over the break we're gonna be thinking of new show ideas, finding shocking guests, etc.

Have a suggestions hit us up!

On a different note:
Last night our show was on stress. We thought it appropriate because this coming week is FINALS WEEK! OH NO! The most stressful time of the semester!
We had Misty Smith, director of student affairs, come up and talk to everyone about what you can do to deal with stress in a positive way.

We learned a neat little secret that I suppose I can pass onto you guys...
Apparently if you eat a pepper mint before an exam it is supposed to help you out on your test. We're talking a possible extra 5 points.
I'm gonna be trying this out!

Good luck to everyone on finals!
Karen Killowatt

Ask a Mexican!

I'm sitting at home listening to the show from today and gotta say...I'm so glad I got to interview Gustavo Arellano. Gustavo Arellano??? Yes he's the dude that writes the column "Ask a Mexican" that you can find in pretty much any free weekly paper in any given city.
Check him out...

He was so great and fun to talk to!

Overall I'd say it was a success!

We really do have great listeners, if it weren't for our listeners I wouldn't have scored this interview. Thank you guys for listening to our show!

Just a Reminder:
CultureShock is on every Thursday from 4-6pm on 91.3FM or online www.rsu.edu/rsuradio/live.asp

What have we become...

Well well well... last nights show didn't go over as well as we had hoped.

We talked about fair food and how fat its become over the years then segued into the topic of competitive eating. Oh and how did Turbo rage on the topic! He hates the idea of competitive eating, which I don't blame him... it is gross, wasteful and well eww. Eww just eww.

Check out this site

Out of control!

I do believe we angered our listeners...we only got 3 calls and usually we do a lot better.
But you know... we did get alot of good feedback, so it coulsn't be that bad.
We love interacting with listeners. We have great listeners and they are so fun!

That's alright next week will be better...you'll have to tune in because I'm not giving this away!

WE'RE TAKING OVER THIS TOOOOWWWWNNNN!!!

Maybe, just MAYBE...I'm being a bit over zealous, but alas, so are aspects of my personality!

Hello! I'm TuRbO! The other half of Culture Shock! Karen Killawatt CLAIMS that I am fun to work with. Well I CLAIM that she is an occasional liar. She deserves a Gold Medal in tolerance.

However!

You're probably reading this because you are:

A) a friend or family member
B) a fan of the show
C) a faculty member
D) a potential employer
E) Codles Kabojo.

If you wanna find out who Codles Kabojo is (the most loveable character on the planet), you'll have to call into the show.

Either way, thanks for taking the time to read. Moving forward we'll be updating the blog weekly, most likely recounting the past show. I believe it's to work like a "he said, she said" format, so if you have any questions (tasteful ones!) or would like to leave comments and critiques, please feel free to do so. Any other topics are welcome, just ask away! :)

This week we covered Fair Food and Competitive Eating. For me, the current evolution of Fair Food is absolutely out of control. Fried EVERYTHING. Snickers, Twinkies, Oreo's, the list goes on and on. Need I mention that most, if not all are topped by powdered sugar? Wow. Sadly, as grossed out by it as I am...I'd probably try one of em' if people weren't watching. And then feel depressed about it on my walk back to my vehicle before I died of a heart attack. But MAN was it good! OM NOM NOM NOM.

The other half of the show was about Competitive Eating contest and certain world records that are held. It's insane! The way in which some of these people are celebrated has me questioning a lot about the people that participate and support these events. These people TRAIN for this. It's not just a county fair pie eating contest. Personally, I feel that it's shameful activity. It's borders insulting not only to the hungry that live in our country, but to people in other countries. It's the ultimate in display of food excess and gluttony. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh?

Well please, respond. I celebrate engaging debate and conversation and would love to read a counter-response. I would love for someone to make a point supporting competitive eating. My opinions and ideas are certainly subject to evolution, and I may very well be guilty of keeping something out of consideration as it pertains to both topics. What are your thoughts?

p.s. If you heard the show, was it as bad as Karen and I thought it was?

First Post- oh no!

Wow, this is very exciting!

I guess lets start with a brief synopsis of who I am. I'm Karen I work at RSU Radio and do a show called "Culture Shock" on 91.3FM with TuRbO on Thursday evenings from 4-6pm! We talk about all things strange, weird, unusual...think zombies, dreams, aliens, conspiracy theories, phobias, etc.

It's been fun working with TuRbO on air, we've been able to do lot of really cool things with the show. We're taking calls and putting them on the air, posting past shows, live chatting with listeners...lets hope we can host some events!

We have a show tomorrow... so look out for some more posts!

I'll try to hook up an update after the show
