Culture Shock sidelined...Again!!!

Yes my Culture Shock friends, yet again we are being sidelined by RSU Hillcat sports. As you well know, RSU Radio does a lot of things and supporting school athletics is one of them. So unfortunately, you'll have to wait to hear more from the Bald wonder and Watt killer. We're so bummed! Just when we were getting started again and gearing up to finish with a bang! Here's a promise though! We WILL be back before the end of the semester and we're planning a final show reflecting on Culture Shock and our experiences with the show! We would still love to hear from you so feel free to email or tweet us! Last week (this past Thursday) as you know, we had baseball airing, the week before though! We had to throw together our first "random" show where basically, we came up with random things to talk about...if you didn't hear or know, we were supposed to be airing baseball but it got cancelled due to weather. Either way, we got through it and it wasn't THAT bad a show! Thanks Google!!! The week before was a crazy show and we're stoked you guys are still calling in! There's a lot to be said for the advances in medical technology in our age. If you heard the show, we were covering odd/strange/weird ways that people treated sickness or ailments. To think! Bloodletting was common place not THAT long ago! Craziness! Certainly shocking ;) Well guys and gals! We'll see about still having some of the Green Country Roller girls up on the next show, TRY to re-schedule the belly dancers and we're still chipping away on our ghost adventure! Stay tuned to the show and again! Please! Email and tweet us your ideas! Thanks! TuRbO

Upcoming Shows!

Hey Everyone!

It's been a while since we've posted and we are really sorry. Oh the lives of busy college students.
I just wanted to give you all a heads up on what you can expect on Culture Shock in the upcoming weeks.

We're thinking of covering the bizarre medical treatments of the past- there are a lot of odd ones!
The Green Country Roller Girls are wanting to come on- those chicks are awesome!
We're trying to work something out with The Oklahoma Ghost Chasers. We wanna go on a ghost hunt then have them on the next day!

We are wanting to start doing some giveaways again- so tune in!
Dont forget you can follow us on Twitter!

Secret Societies and Back to School!!!

Another semester is upon us! I believe I can speak on behalf of Karen and myself in saying that, let's hope this one will be easier than the last! Monday will definitely be coming too soon!

So! On the show yesterday, we covered secret societies. For all we found out in our "research" (thanks google!), the one thing I found most interesting was the idea that any of these societies were seeking to globalize government. Of course, to an extent this has already been taking place. To think of it as part of an agenda to an "alleged" secret society though, that's a whole other matter. I mean, these are some of the most powerful people in the country and world. They're the movers and the shakers, the guys with all the money...and they COULD be dictating the course of human history more so than you think! What do YOU think about all this?

Personally, I think I'm going to start my own secret society. Only in this one, it won't be all THAT secret. Rules for being a part of said society include the following:

1. Under no circumstances are you to partake in Twilight orientated activities.

2. Initiation consists of pricking your finger, smearing blood on a Twilight trading card and then burning it.

3. It is the responsibility of all members to ensure that all radio's within ear shot are tuned into 91.3 FM

4. Hacking TuRbO's facebook account and updating his status is an offense punishable by baldness.

5. All members must face and pass a rigorous obstacle course, designed by Karen Killowatt that was built to test your endurance, mental fortitude and sense of humor.

Finally, our agenda is simply this - To be in a secret society that is ANTI-Elitist and has no real main goal, other than to have a secret society because other people do. Take THAT Skull and Bones, IN YO FACE Illuminati!

Till next time Culturites!

New Year, New Culture, New Shock!!!

And so we enter 2010! Happy New Year! Granted, I typed this a few days late, but such is the way of the bald man known as TuRbO. As I said in response to Karen Killowatt's Clownvis post, my one New Year's resolution this year is to be more diligent in my blog posts. Here's what I'd like to know from you!

1. What do you as a listener want to see out of the show? What topics interest you?

2. If you were to follow a blog, do you want the reader or the author to dictate topics? Should we just continue to cover topics from the show or expand on topics that randomly concern Karen and I?

3. More talk or more music?

4. Would you like to hear music the station is currently playing in rotation, or a mix of older stuff that is more alternative rock inspired?

5. What would make you want to call into the show and participate/have your voice heard on the air?

I think if you answered ANY of those questions, Karen and I might be able to smash our minds together and come up with one heck of an entertaining program catered to YOU the listener! This is Karen's last semester at school, and I'm sure I speak for both of us when I say, we wanna end it all with the two of us being recognized as the premiere college radio talk show in Oklahoma! We have aspirations! We can dream can't we?!?! We wanna be famous....at least sorta. Given the current economic situation, we'd both settle for good paying jobs in the industry. *Hint hint to all employers out there*

This week on Culture Shock, Karen and I look into secret societies! Think Skull & Bones, Illuminati, the Free Masons...What do YOU think???

Thursday! 4-6pm! On 91.3 FM! Streaming online at www.rsu.edu/rsuradio

slackers, finals and peppermints?!

Turbo and I have been super slackers on the blog as of late... we've been very busy with school this semester!
Our apologies!
But anyways we are looking forward to another semester of Culture Shock!
Over the break we're gonna be thinking of new show ideas, finding shocking guests, etc.

Have a suggestions hit us up!

On a different note:
Last night our show was on stress. We thought it appropriate because this coming week is FINALS WEEK! OH NO! The most stressful time of the semester!
We had Misty Smith, director of student affairs, come up and talk to everyone about what you can do to deal with stress in a positive way.

We learned a neat little secret that I suppose I can pass onto you guys...
Apparently if you eat a pepper mint before an exam it is supposed to help you out on your test. We're talking a possible extra 5 points.
I'm gonna be trying this out!

Good luck to everyone on finals!

Ask a Mexican!

I'm sitting at home listening to the show from today and gotta say...I'm so glad I got to interview Gustavo Arellano. Gustavo Arellano??? Yes he's the dude that writes the column "Ask a Mexican" that you can find in pretty much any free weekly paper in any given city.
Check him out...

He was so great and fun to talk to!

Overall I'd say it was a success!

We really do have great listeners, if it weren't for our listeners I wouldn't have scored this interview. Thank you guys for listening to our show!
